One Hot Mama Gets Her Fix In Super Spicy Los Cabos!

I had the pleasure of visiting Los Cabos and Cabo San Lucas over the 4th of July Holiday weekend and made a point to stop into local restaurants and street vendors alike.  I needed a fix of spicy coastal and traditional Mexican cuisine!  Since it was my first time there, we decided to call on the experts to point the way!

We gathered intel from our two best sources –  travelholics of Cabo.  We were told we MUST try the octopus at Mariscos las Tres Islas in town.  So, we set off on what we believed would be a short walk from the marina area (main drag) we visited that day …  and 30 minutes later … we were there!  It should have been about a 10 minute walk!  Gotta love GPS!

A packed, tiny, open-air restaurant –  full on Spanish menus with no translation – perfect!

After a bit of a wait … we were seated and began pondering our menu options knowing all the while we were getting the octopus, but I also had a craving for lobster!  The waiter recommended a combination plate which included the octopus and lobster, yum!  There was also a ton of shrimp!  Bacon wrapped, coconut rolled, and grilled!  Had we only known how big of a portion this plate was.  Even though we shared, we were already full from a serving of a variety of delicious salsas and dips devoured with packaged tostadas from a basket on the table!  One in particular was the tuna dip.  OMG….move out of my way!  I wanted to dive into the bowl.  It was not spicy unlike the habanero and chipotle salsas … but oh so good!  I once read a blog about someone wanting to “inject” our Creamy Cilantro Salsa Dip https://twohotmamas.com/creamy-cilantro/ … now I understand!  Not to take away anything from my own recipes, but damn!  Hook me up!

The octopus plate would have cost us around 10 US dollars and we probably could have shared that plate, but we ended up with a 100 US dollar tab including drinks!  LOL … I say it was well worth the experience and my taste buds thanked me all the way back on the 30 minute walk to our resort community.

At the resort, there was also a street taco vendor I fell in love with.  Serving mainly pork (my fav) in a variety of flavors on corn tortillas with Serranos, fresh cilantro, white onions and salsas – it brought back traditional memories of my childhood.  I ate way too many of them, multiple times!  I love and make street tacos all the time, but there’s something a bit more special about tasting them in the middle of a street and in Spicy Los Cabos!

Self-Sufficient Living and Foodies are Sexy!

I think I’m getting “hooked”!  As I learn to catch my own fish, I’ve come to realize that it not only saves on the grocery budget http://www.food-skills-for-self-sufficiency.com/  but it also tastes so damn good!  Self-sufficient living is sexy!  Self-sufficient foodies are sexier!

I’m not one to hold back on flavors while cooking and sometimes I splurge on calories (okay – more than sometimes).  Now … I will forever be hooked on catching and cooking my own fish!  I’m pretty sure that’s sexy!

I’ve had the privilege of spending a lot of time relaxing at the Texas Coast and learning how to fish.  While I’m quite sure I’ve got much more to learn about fishing (no laughing at my pic), I can’t help but think how self-sufficient one could become? http://tipsforsurvivalists.com/15-steps-to-becoming-self-sufficient.  Could this be my New Year’s Resolution?

I love that the fish I serve my family is truly organic, and the fact that I actually caught it (or someone on the boat I had to bribe), makes me feel so good!  I’ve never been around hunting or fishing (being a city girl and all), but I do have fond memories of gardening with my Grandparents and self-sufficient ways of cooking.  Kudos to those self-sufficient chefs out there!  We would also take trips to local farms to select our eggs.  At the time, I didn’t realize my Grandparents were not only frugal, but cared about eating natural foods.  And what fun it was as a young child to experience this!  Talk about fresh and organic!

Somehow, I’ve never let go of the natural ways of cooking and it shows in all of our products.  We are so proud of that and we continue to strive to source natural local ingredients.
